Qin(1) Pei [16013] This is the unnamed great grandfather of Qin(1) Chengyu [16020] noted in Wang(2) Yucheng's [3997] funerary inscription (q.v.) for the Chengyu. Pei was a man who served the kingdom of Wu with merit at end of Tang and was appointed Wuchang jun jiedu shi. Renming Da cidian, p. 830. I am treating him as the ancestor of the Jiangning Qin(1). Since Chengyu is designated as a Lujiang person [Lu(a)zhou], Pei probably moved from Lu to Jiangning (he was once made prefect of Shengzhou [also named Jiankang and Jiangning]. Pei was probably related to the Qin(1) of Suzhou [Pei conquered Kinshan county for Yang(2) Xingmi [16013] and protected it later on from bandits attacking Suzhou] and relatives were probably the ancestors of the Gaoyou Qin(1) (e.g. Qin(1) Guan [3043]). CHECK Frank Qin's study. I am, however, for the time being, treating the Jiangning Qin(1) as separate branches of Pei's lineage and the other Qin(1) as separate lineages.
